Hartland Parish, north division, hundred of Hartland, a parish and sea-port (formerly a market town) that includes the hamlets of of Millford, Meddon, Cheristow, Elmscott, and Pilham, and the village of Stoke, is 4-1/4 miles northeast of Welcombe, 14-3/4 miles southwest of Bideford, 53 west northwest of Exeter, and 215-3/4 miles southwest of London... An act of parliament passed in the reign of Queen Elizabeth for completing this port, which is subject to the port of Bideford... in the archdeaconry of Barnstaple, and diocese of Exeter... An almshouse for three poor widows was founded in 1618, by William MILL, of London...

DL Notes: The above may have been Puritan Separatist Degory PRIEST who stated in April 1619 in Leyden, Holland that he was 40 years old (b ca 1579). Degory m 4 Sep 1611 in Leyden, Sarah ALLERTON, sister of Isaac ALLERTON, Sr., and by her had daughters, Mary (m Phineas PRATT), and Sarah, b ca 1615, Leyden. Degory sailed to Plymouth Colony on the Mayflower in 1620, d on 1 Jan 1621. His widow married next, Godbert GODBERTSON (a.k.a. Cuthbert CUTHBERTSON) and came also, in 1623 on the Anne, to Plymouth Colony where ca 1630, daughter Sarah PRIEST m an unidentified John COMBS.
