Visitations and Lineages of Worcester
According to the Hazel M. Kendall Manuscript (her sources not given), Combs were in Worcester as early as 1376:

"The Coomb or Combe family had been at Wineoband and Shiregreen in Yorkshire since 1276.
"Ulnoth Cambas (Combs) a freeman owned land in Stow before 1086
John, warden of Athelstone1376 Worcestershire, England.
Combe Petrus de fined 1339
Henry of Wineoband and Shiregreen, York
William
witness to dee(d?) 1399
John living 1443
William d. by 1476 wf Alicia
John living 1500 wf. Joanne
John Combes d. 1550 at Crowle, Worcestershire
John d. 1588 inherited Grovely Manor wife Rose
William ____ (?)1591: wife Elizabeth

Note: It is not clear whether the above was meant to be a descendancy or not and, other than the last three generations, has not been researched (No one in our group can get that far back anyhow <G>). John COMBES who d 1550 at Crowle, however, appears to be the same John Combs who is listed in the 1619 Visitations of Warwickshire as "John COMBE de Ashley, Com. Wor." whose son, John COMBE of Stratford on Avon, Warwickshire (d 1588) m (1) Joyce BLOUNT of Worcester; and (2) Rose CLOPTON of Warwickshire.

Further "clues" to the Combs of Worcestershire may lie in the genealogy of the STRATFORD Family in that Anthony STRATFORD, of Temple Guiting, m "Jane, dau. of William ROUSE of Worcestershire family," and Anthony's uncle Richard STRATFORD m "Margaret, dau. Of --COMBE, and had issue, a son, Henry, who m. Abigail, dau. of William COKE" (Burke's); and that the 1656 will of Thomas COMBES the younger of Warwickshire mentioned "My loving nieces Mrs. Mary ROUSE wife of John ROUSE of Tachbrooke [Bishops Tachbrook, Warwickshire] Esq" (widow of Thomas WAGSTAFFE)

According to the Combs Family, Visitation, Warwickshire, 1619 (Page 291) (1 of 2) (excerpted):
Arms- Ermine, three lions passant in pale gules.
Crest- a dexter hand and arm embowed in armour sable, garnished or, holding a broken tilting spear of the last and wreathed about the arm gules and argent.

1 Johannes COMBE de Ashley in Com. War.
….2 Johannes COMBE de Ashley in Com. Worc. [sic]
….….3 John COMBE de olde Stratford in Comitat. War.
….….+ ...filia BLOUNT in Com. Worcest.

Note the apparent change from Ashley of Warwick and Ashley of Worcester. Confusion in this regard has also been seen in other Visitations & is being checked. Of the 4 sons listed (no daughters indicated) of John & Joyce BLOUNT Combe of Old Stratford, Warwickshire, both Edward & Thomas are shown as of Warwickshire; No indication is given of the residences of the other two sons, George and John; however, other Worcester connections would include both Miss BLOUNT, and Mary SAVAGE of Elmeley, Worcestershire, wife of Thomas COMBE.

According to the LANE Family, Visitation, Warwickshire, 1619 (Page 307) (excerpted):
