Notes: This record does not appear in Van Buren Co, IA 1850 census. It is primarily a duplicate of the 1850 Jefferson Co, IA record. But there may have been a reason for the inclusion since the Graham Co(o)mbs family is in the 1856 Iowa State Census for Van Buren and Graham's widow Jane is found in records through the 1880 Van Buren CO. census.

Notes: Parts of the image were dark and blurred and very hard to read. It is possible the children were out of order. The wife was clearly Diana; therefore, there may have been a mistake or maybe her name was Diana Jane as it appears her daughter Diana was also named Diana Jane.

Note: Jane reads and writes; 3 youngest go to school.

Notes: Appears to be the family of Graham Coombs; however, the ages are off on the children. The head of the household may be Graham's son John who should have been around age 28. Graham Combs died in 1860 per his cemetery marker (Winsell cemetery, Jefferson Co), month unknown; therefore he could have still have been alive. Jane was born 1810 per her cemetery marker so she should have been age 50 which is fairly close.

The marriage licenses for Graham's daughter Diana Coombs & Asbury SUTTON and his son James Combs & Amanda ARMENTROUT were obtained on the same day in 1865. Both couples are found in the 1870 Jefferson Co, IA census. James Coombs and Asbury SUTTON served together in the 5th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment, were neighbors for several years, and were good friends per a bio of Asbury Sutton (Rootsweb bio message board).
