Subject: 30 Combs obits
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Thanks again to your quiet cousin, Louise Gaskill, these Current Combs
Obits have been extracted from files previously locked in the closed
Taulbee Research Pages due to copyright concerns. Louise and a couple of
other cousins are extracting these files so they may be freely shared.
We have placed a copyright on these extracted files, but you will in
violation only if they appear in a work which is sold. Otherwise, you
are free to use them in any way. The entire file is found on the Taulbee
Pages of my URL below. So far, they have extractd A - L, with the
remainder to be posted soon. Another Cousin, Carole Bays, is overseeing
the collecting of obituaries so the files can be kept current. It will
be only a few years before documents such as these become important to
the next generation of genealogists. So enjoy.
There are numerous Combs among the relatives of the other surnames. No
one will ever have the time to produce an all name index, but your
<find> function on your browser or word processor will find what you are
looking for. All files are plain text.

I'm sorry, Barbara, but I have to disagree. We only have our COMBS RootsWeb
List because of the RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative. This List, and
the many other services provided to us all by RootsWeb, including the
server space for most of the US GenWeb County pages and archives, are FREE
to us. No one is required to donate, but to not remind our list members
from whom they receive this FREE service, and at what cost, is what I would
consider inappropriate.
Sincerely,
Carole H a m m e t t, Combs RootsWeb Co-Moderator
& Combs RootsWeb Sponsor

I am sorry, but as a fellow list owner, I must disagree. Using a mail
list to ask the members of the list to support the operation that
permits the list to exist is neither inappropriate nor a waste of time.
Many list owners are using their lists to seek increased financial
support for rootsweb, especially from those who have used the lists but
have never contributed a cent or a minute of their time to keep them
running. The list owner decides what is permited on the list (often
seeking input from members). Those who don't like the content need not
remain. This is not my list, so how to deal with posts like yours is not
my problem. I will only say that on my list we have a policy of one
flame, one rude or offensive post, and you are gone. Enough said. Carol,
I appolgise for stepping into your domain, but this post triggered an
irresitible urge to respond. I could feel my ears becoming pointed, my
teeth getting longer, and I saw hair growing on the inside of my palms.
And it is not even a full moon. I hope this does not start another never
ending thread.

Robert, Barbara et al:
(1) I do not consider what Barbara wrote to have been a "flame." She was
merely expressing her opinion; albeit possibly not as "nicely" as we might
have liked. <g>
(2) On the COMBS List, we're baseball oriented anyway -- it takes 3
strikes. <g>
I also think it only fair to let Barbara, and others of you who may feel
the same way that she does, know that the subject of whether "reminders" to
RootsWeb List Members are appropriate postings, has been "beat to death" on
the RootsWeb Listowners List.
My own position as to whether or not it is "junk mail" aka SPAM is based on
the fact that the definition of Junk Mail/Spam is that it is unsolicited
email whereas by virtue of subscribing to a RootsWeb List, you are
soliciting postings relative to Rootsweb... Only my opinion, but I'm also
one who's not into "biting the hand that feeds me." <vbg>
'Nuff said and now back to gen.
