Footnote 2. Pages 27-28. William UNDERWOOD, Jr. was not
the s/o Col. William UNDERWOOD and his last wife, Elizabeth, but her son
by an earlier marriage to a yet-unidentified Underwood (but possibly also
a William). The 600 acres on Peumans End run were part of a dowery settlement
by their mother, Elizabeth, to
her three sons (at the time; she
may have had more later): William UNDERWOOD, Jr., John COMBS and William
COMBS. The deed was an Essex deed, not Richmond,
and the 200 acre conveyance by William UNDERWOOD, Jr. was his share of
the 600 acres. John was not on the quit rent roll of Caroline County in
1715, but it's parent county of Essex.
Thomas KENDALL was the father of William KENDALL, h/o Elizabeth COMBS.

Footnote 3. Page 30. It is not
known why the transcription shows John's mark as "FC" since the following
paragraph makes it clear that his mark was a "crossed-I C" (as is confirmed
by copy of original).

Footnote 4. Pages 30-1. At the time of her father's death,
Elizabeth COMBS Kendall was still living in the Richmond area (not Stafford).
It is possible (probable?) that John COMBS married only once, to Ann a.k.a.
Hannah (commonly synonymous at that time) who may have been neè
Ann
"Hannah" MASON. Although there may have been older children than Elizabeth
COMBS Kendall and Archdale
COMBS II, there were no sons older than Archdale COMBS II since he
is documented as having been John's eldest son under English laws of primogeniture,
and by the wording of the will, he was also the son of Hannah (additional
evidence that Hannah and Ann were one and the same?). Nowhere has any record
been located as yet to indicate that John had more than the seven children
named in his will (Joseph
COMBS of Stafford is not a documented son of John, although
believed to have been somehow kin to him). Subsequent to the publication
of this manuscript, the first King George Co, VA Will Book was returned
to Virginia, thus much more information is now available to us in regard
to Archdale and his descendants, including Archdale COMBS III of 1759 King
George, who was not a son, but a grandson of Archdale II. .

Footnote 5. Page 33. Hannah was not a sister to
Richard TUTT, nor a daughter of any William UNDERWOOD, but his step-aunt-in-law.
Richard TUTT had m Mary UNDERWOOD, d/o William UNDERWOOD, Sr. (John COMBS'
step-brother), thus Mary UNDERWOOD Tutt was John's step-niece. William
UNDERWOOD, Sr. made no gifts of land to John COMBS. Instead, these were
assigned dower rights from John COMBS' mother, Elizabeth, step-mother to
William UNDERWOOD, Sr.
