Footnote 1. Pages 122-3. Generations 1-6:

Re the hypothetical Generation 1 families: (a) No Combs-Archdale marriage has been found earlier than the 1587 marriage of John & Margaret ARCHDALE Combe (See the Combs &c. Research Report for the Archdale Families); (b) Seeking documentation and more information abt the family of Richard COMBE, "Lord of Combe Manor" in Devonshire, EN, who d in 1619 (See The Combs &c. Research Report for Ellis COMBS, kinsman of John & Margaret ARCHDALE Combs, and brother of Susan COMBS Willand of Devonshire, EN).

Re Generations 2 and 3: See the Combs &c. Research Report for John & Margaret ARCHDALE Combe, which includes the family of their son, John COMBE, Esq. & wife, Elizabeth LOVETT (not Margaret ARCHDALE, not a planter and not a resident of Virginia), whose son, Archdale COMBE, b 1641, Soulbury Parish, Buckinghamshire, EN, may have been the same as Archdale COMBE I of Old Rappa Co, VA (research in progress). There is no evidence that John & Elizabeth LOVETT Combs had sons named either John or William. See also the Combs &c. Research Report for the Lovett Families.

Re Generation 4: See the Combs &c. Research Reports for Archdale COMBE I of Old Rappa Co, VA and the Underwood Families. where it is documented that Elizabeth, w/o Archdale, had two UNDERWOOD husbands, and that she was not the sister of Amory BUTLER, her maiden name still unknown.

Re Generation 5 (children of Archdale & Elizabeth COMBS I of Old Rappa): See the Combs &c. Research Reports for John & Hannah "Ann" (MASON?) Combs and William & Mary COMBS of Richmond Co, VA.

Re Generation 6 (children of John COMBS of Richmond Co, VA): See the Combs &c. Research Reports for Archdale COMBS II; William and Elizabeth COMBS Kendall; and Mason & Sarah COMBS, Sr. Note that Archdale II did leave issue; that the marriage and birth dates for the Kendalls is faulty, and that no evidence has been located indicating that Sarah, w/o Mason, might have been a MASON.

Re Generation 6: See the Combs &c. Research Report for Joseph COMBS I of Stafford Co, VA (not a documented son of John COMBS of Richmond).

Footnote 2. Pages 123-124. Re Generation 7 (children of Mason & Sarah COMBS, Sr.):

1. See the Combs &c. Research Reports for added lineages for William & Seth STACY Combs, Sr.; Benjamin & Ann COMBS Stacy, Sr., Mason & Dorothy COMBS (Jr.?) and William & Winnifred COMBS Ridge, Sr. (documented children of Mason & Sarah COMBS, Sr.). Note that (a) Nicholas "Danger" COMBS, h/o Nancy GRIGSBY, was not the s/o Mason & Sarah COMBS, Sr., but the s/o 7 John COMBS, "father of the eight" (see below); and (b) no evidence has been located that indicates the Josiah COMBS of Old Frederick Co, VA might have been a s/o Mason & Sarah COMBS, Sr.

2. See the Combs &c. Research Report for John & Nancy HARDING Combs, Sr., documented parents of "the eight," all of whom have Combs &c. Research Reports. See above re Nicholas "Danger" COMBS (h/o Nancy GRIGSBY) has now been documented as a s/o John & Nancy HARDING Combs, Sr., and not of Mason COMBS, Sr.

Footnote 3. Page 124. Re Generations 8 & 9 (John COMBS, s/o John & Nancy HARDING Combs, Sr.): See the Combs &c. Research Reports for Rev. War Soldier John COMBS (one of the "eight") and a second John COMBS of Perry Co, KY. There is no evidence that "Soldier John" was married more than once, and it is possible that children assigned to the first marriage were descended from the second John COMBS. Also note that the manuscript conflicts itself re the the identity and children of these two men, and that Jeremiah L. "Long" COMBS and others may have been the s/o the second John COMBS.

Joseph COMBS II (s/o Joseph I, probably h/o Elizabeth HARRISON), which includes links to Research Reports for the family of his son, Stephen and Barbara ALLEN Combs, and to Rev.
