Following the death of George D.A. Combes, his wife and daughter made
a 1925 Combes Manuscript available to Researcher Winifred Lovering Holman
who edited it, including additiional records and annotations, with the
result being a rough draft, 1961-dated, unpublished manuscript, of which
Combs &c. has a partial (seeking remainder!) copy provided
by Combs Researcher Hannah Combs Friedlander, and titled "Combes Genealogy"
by George Davison Aylesworth Combes (1889-1941), Assisted by Clinton de
Raisnes Combs (1886-1953), compiled ante 1925, Edited by Winifred Lovering
Holman, S.B., F.A.S.G.; hereinafter GDAC, 1925.
The Editor (rather than the Author/Compiler) apparently added references
from additional sources, including New Jersey Wills (Archives Series),
American Genealogist, New York Genealogical and Biographical Record and
the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, but *only* as published
subsequent to 1940; i.e., following the death of George Davison Aylesworth
Combs, which leaves a gap in these sources for the period 1925 through
1940.
The records included in this partial manuscript are all for either NY
or NJ, and have been extracted and organized by state, county and township
by Combs Researchers (and added to the applicable NJ
and NY
Combs Counties of Record).
We hope to be able to publish this manuscript shortly (whether in part
or in its entirety), but are currently pending a determination as to whether
it has ever been published and/or copyrighted (the rough draft includes
no copyright). In the meantime, the records extractions are temporarily
available in a text file at http://www.combs-families.org/~combs/ms/ms-gdac.txt
Sincerely,
Combs &c. Research
