CA Notes: I am told by cousins that Charlotte "Lottie" Bertha COOMBS was b 28 Jun 1868, 1869, or 1870 in Boston, MA, that her mother was Elizabeth MATTHEWS, b 1845 in England. Elizabeth's husband may have been a John COOMBS. Charlotte had at least one brother named Edward COOMBS who was present at Charlotte's daughter's wedding in 1916. Charlotte married John (Johannes) Dietrich RASMUSSEN who was born in Prussia (Schleswig-Holstein) sometime in the 1860's. Charlotte's oldest child was born in 1896 in Los Angeles County. According to the cousins, after her father died, her mother took her back to England, which is where Charlotte married John Rasmussen. I have not found any record of a marriage in California. Also according to cousins, John lived in NY for a while as a butcher before coming to CA.

Walter Wadhaus Combs, 60 of E. Dedora Street, Brea [Orange Co], CA died yesterday at the home of his son, Russell Combs of Whittier [Los Angeles Co, CA], following a long illness. A rancher, Mr. Combs is survived by his wife, Sorida, two brothers, John T. Combs of Costa Mesa [Orange Co] and George Combs of San Diego [Co, CA]; two sisters, Mrs. A.O. STEPHENS of Redlands [San Bernardino Co, CA], Mrs. Marie HASTINGS of San Diego and two grandchildren. Holy Rosary will be recited this evening at 7 in McAuley and Suter Mortuary Chapel in Fullerton [Orange Co, CA]. Mass will be said tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic church, Whittier. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, San Gabriel [Los Angeles Co, CA]

Funeral services for Robert O. Combs, 56, who died Sunday, will be conducted today at 10:00 a.m. in Angeles Abbey mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow with Utter-McKinley's Compton Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Mr Combs was a native of California. He resided at 11544 E. Cherrylee Drive, El Monte [Los Angeles Co, CA]. He was a member of the Manchester Lodge 585 F & AM. He leaves his widow, Lorena L. Combs, sons Robert and Jack MOORE, and four grandchildren.
VW Note: The above information was received by Opal Combs from another source in March of 1962. Robert O. Combs was the s/o William Henry and Electra ORMSBY Combs of San Diego CA. Also Note: This source also indicates, that in a letter from Lorena L. Combs, that Lorena and Robert were married for twelve years, and that she had no other information regarding the Combs family. She was the second wife of Robert.
