Stanislaus County, CA: Obituary - Albert COMBS (Submitted by Combs Researcher Faye Shankle, great-granddaughter of Albert Combs)
Albert COMBS, son of Thomas and Evy (WHITMER) Combs, was born near Frankfort, Kentucky, December 23, 1842. At the age of 10 years with his parents, he moved to Clark County, Missouri, 5 miles south of Kahoka, where they bought a farm and where he grew to manhood. On December 24, 1865, he united in marriage to Miss Amanda M. WILSON. He taking his bride to the old home place. To this happy union 8 children were born, 2 sons and 6 daughters (1 son and 1 daughter dying in infancy). In 1903, he sold his farm and moved to Edmond [Oklahoma Co], Oklahoma where they lived 4 years. On the account of his wife's health, he then moved to Midvale [Washington Co], Idaho, near their son Walter and his family. From there he moved to Modesto [Stanislaus Co], California, where his wife died on 6 Mar 1918. He then bought a farm 13 miles southwest of Modesto, where he died November 23, 1921, aged 79 years and 11 months. Early in life he was converted and gave his heart and life to God to which he remained true until death. In his months of bereavement he had said many times he wanted to go home and be with Jesus and his loved ones gone before. As a husband, he was ideal; as a father, none could be better. If he had an enemy, he never knew it. He was always ready to help those who needed help. As a neighbor, he was loved by all. He leaves to mourn their loss the following children: Mrs. Alice SELF, Mrs. Sarah BREAKFIELD, Mrs. May BUELL, and Walter COMBS, all of California; Mrs. Emma CLARK of Wyconda [Clark Co], Missouri and Mrs. Hattie ADAMSON of Edmond, Oklahoma; and one brother, Dan COMBS of Kahoka, and 12 grandchildren. On November 25, his body was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the beautiful cemetery in Modesto, California.
