Northam, a parish in the north division, hundred of Shebbear, less than two miles north of Bideford, 2-1/4 miles northeast of Abbotsham, and less than 7 miles west of Tawstock, 5 miles south of Braunton... The parish is bounded by the Bristol channel on the west, and by the navigable river Torridge on the east.
