Biography
Noah COMBS was born March 5, 1877. His parents were Henry and Harriet COMBS. He was one of nine children. In apperance he was stout altho he was of frail health. He was bothered with asthma and heart ailments. Aug. 9, 1900 he was united in marriage with Mary Alice BELL. To this union was born 11 children. 2 preceded their father to the grave, nine are left to mourn his loss. He died June 6, 1933 after one week's illness with pneumonia. Besides his wife and nine children he leaves one brother and one sister, Tom COMBS and Mrs. Lillie ACKMAN, also a host of friends too numerous to mention.Jas. V. COMBS, 58, Dies In Indiana
James V. COMBS, 58, a former resident of Gallatin County, died Wednesday, January 27 at Richmond, Indiana, of a brain hemorrhage. Mr. COMBS has been confined to the hospital for the past four years, following a fall from a moving truck.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice (PIKE) and nine children, Muncie, Ind., his mother, Mrs. Alice COMBS, Napoleon, Ky., three sisters, Mrs. Birdie MERCER, Warsaw; Mrs. Lula EACRET, Pendleton, Indiana, and Mrs. Betty MEADOWS, Muncie, Ind., three brothers, Sam, Melbert and Calvin, all of Gallatin County.
Services were conducted at Muncie with interment there.Robert Samuel "Bobby" COMBS, 61, of Worthville, died suddenly on Sunday, January 3, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in the Napoleon area, Gallatin County. He was a member of Sugar Creek Church of Christ and was a machine operator at the Kentucky Ladder Company, Carrollton.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Marjorie (MASTERS) Combs; daughters, Kay BRACKEN, Loveland, Ohio, Sr. Chief Petty Officer Chris GOHRANSON, El Cajon, California, Donna COMBS of Lexington, Ky., sons, Rob COMBS, Lexington, Paul Samuel COMBS, New Albany, Indiana, Jonathan David COMBS, Lexington; a sister, Dorothy J. SAMPOSON, Miami Town, Ohio, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton, with Richard DENNY officiating. Burial was at Warsaw Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dan GRIFFIN, Mike MARKSBERRY, C.W. YANCEY, Bill GOHRANSON, Jerry COMBS, and Melbert R. COMBS.-
TCC Notes: Bobby was the son of Sam and Bell (BRADON) Combs. Most of his children were in the Lexington, KY area at that time in college.Jean COMBS, of Glencoe, died Thursday, September 11, 1997 aged 72, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Melbert COMBS, died in 1994.
Survivors include daughters, Jill Sharon and Lois Carol COMBS, both of Glencoe; sons, Melbert ''Duke'' COMBS and Calvin COMBS, both of Glencoe; a sister, Ruth WELCH of Bedford; 13 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, with visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. today. Interment will be in the Napoleon Cemetery.
Note: Jean's maiden name was KINMAN.Calvin Lawrence COMBS, 48, of Glencoe, died Friday, Dec 3, 1999, at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a heavy equipment operator with Lonkard Construction Co. in Florence, a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church in Gallatin County, and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Karen COMBS; a son, Mike Delehanty COMBS of Milton; daughters, Becky WEBSTER of Verona, Jessie BARTERAM of Glencoe and Carmon NOEL of Florida; a brother, Melbert Ray COMBS of Glencoe; sisters, Jill Sharon and Lois COMBS, both of Glencoe; and five grandchildren.
