Zebulon R. Combs, aged 46, was born in New Jersey according to the 1850 census of the 8th ward of Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. He is a constable. In that census his wife is Mary is aged 38 also born in New Jersey. Also in that household are listed Thomas age 22, a carpenter born in New York, Lydia aged 16 born in Pennsylvania and Zebulon aged 5 born New York and Charlotte aged 9 months born in New York. Also living in that household are David Vail age 23 and Abraham Prevost 17 both born in New Jersey.
Records show a marriage in 1828 at Belford, Monmouth County, New Jersey of Zebulon Combs and Mary STOUT. Mary is said to have been born on 12 April 1807, daughter of Jonathan Stout and Esther (Morris) Stout.

Zebulon Sr's first wife died in 1852. In 1860 Zebulon's wife is Sarah, born about 1814 in New Jersey. Her maiden name unknown. She spent her last days in the Baptist Home in Brooklyn, New York and died there. Brooklyn denies having record of her death. She was buried in 5648, Sec 59 on 24 January 1892. The transcript of her burial from GreenWood states that she died on 22 January 1892, was aged 77 years and 11 months old and was widowed. Her obituary appeared in the Brooklyn Eagle on 23 January 1892, page 5, column 2. She was said to have been 78 and widow of Zebulon R. Combs.
