Buckingham County was established in 1758 from Albemarle.


1781. RW Soldier Dudley BROOKE applied for his pension in 1833 in Robertson Co., TN, declared he was b 03 Jul 1762 in Chesterfield Co VA; & at age 4 moved to Buckingham Co VA where he enlisted and that he lived there many years after the war… He first enlisted in 1777, in Capt. WHITE'S Company; in 1778, again enlisted; in 1779 enlisted under Lt. Henry JOHNSON, and Col. Anthony NEW; enlisted again in Capt. Richard PHILIPS Company; in 1781 served seven months in Capt. Robert CAREY'S Company, Col. COMBE'S Virginia Regiment. In 1802, he left Louisa Co VA where he was then living and removed to Robertson Co, TN.
