The Ayloffes are said to have been anciently seated at Bocton Alof, near Wye, Kent, and to have settled in Essex at a very early date. In the parish church of Hornchurch, is the tomb of William Ayloffe, who died Aug. 10th 1517. He married Audrey (or Maud), daughter of Sir John Shaa, Kt, and was great-grandfather of Sir William Ayloffe, 1st Bart.
