Clerkenwell (1.38 mi. northwest of city centre)..."an extensive and populous parish, in the Finsbury division of the hundred of Ossultone, county of Middlesex, anciently one of the northern suburbs, but now adjoining the city of London... This district was formerly called the parish of St. James, Clerkenwell, and the church of St. James was the only church within it; it is now divided into two districts, one called St. James', and the other St. John's, both in the archdeaconry and diocese of London. The living of St. James' is a perpetual curacy, in the patronage of the inhabitants of both districts, paying church and poor rates (Lewis, 1831)

MR Notes: One Joseph COOMBE m 29 Mar 1853, Sydney, NSW, Australia, Ellen BUCHANAN, and is believed by some researchers to have been the same as the above. Joseph & Ellen left immediately after their wedding for Auckland, New Zealand, had 12 children, Joseph became first Chief Executive of the Auckland Savings Bank; died in Auckland 01 Dec 1872. Ellen came back to Australia with the younger children. The 3rd daughter Fanny, who had married William HUMPHREYS, also came to AUS. Joseph's ancestry remains a mystery, and seeking more information abt the above family.
