Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury
Combs &c. Entries Extracted from the PRO Catalogue, London
See English Regnal Years for the years Kings and Queens reigned.
Source: Extractions from Public Records Office (PRO) Catalogue, Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PROB)
See also Combs &c. Estate Records of England and applicable residences of the deceased. Note that only those records that are linked to a location have been entered in that location (another work in progress).
Important: While the electronic index does provide individual probate information for numerous special categories, it does not include the indices to the PCC will registers. The class for the will registers is PROB 11, which provides only the names of the registers, the date and the number of quires. For example, the reference for the will of Sir Robert LOVETT is PROB 11/195 (10 TWISE). A search of the electronic index for that reference provides only the following:"PROB 11/195: Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Prerogative Court of Canterbury and related Probate Jurisdictions: Will Registers. Name of Register: Twisse Quire Numbers: 1 - 52. Text Date. 1646."According to the PRO's PROB 11 Information, all PCC (Prerogative Court of Canterbury) wills (PROB 11) have been microfilmed with copies available for ordering from local FHC's. Note, however, that many of the earlier wills are in Latin.
Numerous other PRO PROB (probate, including wills, administrations, depositions, etc.) do include names, and those with Combs &c. entries are listed as follows.
