Excerpted from a "A Quantock Family: The Stawells of Cothelstone and their descendants, the Barons Stawell of Somerton, and the Stawells of Devoshire and the County Cork" compiled and edited by Colonel George Dodsworth Stawell, Barnicott and Pearce, the Wessex Press, Taunton, 1910:
NOTE 23. This lease to be pduced & lives to bee pved "A Survey of the Prebend of Wiveliscombe & Mannor thereof &c. taken in the moneth of June 1650. Wherein after both the Gleabs & the Mannor are pticularly menconed & surveyed it thus followes vizt. All wch foremenconed pmisses wth theyr & euie of theyr appurtennce (by Lease not pduced) are claymed by Sr John Stawell Knt for the lives of Edward Stawell George Stawell & Thomas Stawell sonnes of the saide Sr John Stawell under the yearely Rent of fortie pounde payable quarterly by equall porcons. But they are worth vppon improvemt as by the Seuall pticulars before certifyed appeareth over and aboue the saide rent p Annu . . . . 423li. 03s. 02d. The lives are all in being as is affirmed but two thereof (vizt) Edward & Thomas are saide to be in ffraunce. Returned into the office of Surveyes the 25th of July 1650 Wm Richardson | Nich. COMBE | Surveyors Alex. Lawson | James Hibbins | [Indorsement] An extract of soe much of the Survey of the Prebend of Wivelscomb & Mannor as concernes the estate of Sr Jo. Stawell Knt. therein." MS. of Sir John Stawell, K.B., now in the possession of Lady Stawell.
Not known if relevant, but some STAWELLS removed to County Cork, Ireland, where on 22 Nov 1568, a Nicholas CAM was christened to Edward and Elizabeth CAM.
