Be it known that we William COMBS as principle and Wiley BARRETT as surety, are jointly and severally bound to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in the sun of one hundred dollars. The Condition of this Bond is as Follows: That, Whereas, Marriage in intended to be solemnized between the above bound, William COMBS and Hannah HART. Now, if it is no lawful cause to obstrust said marriage, this bond shall be void, otherwise it shall remain in full force and effect.

Note: Nicholas Combs married Mary "Polly" BOLLING (daughter of George & Phoebe) by 1853 (1853-1855 Owsley Co., KY Vital Stats.) In 1860, they are found in Pulaski Co., KY with her parents, but Mary apparently died following the birth of their son, George, born 1869, as she is not only missing from this census, but the child is in the 1870 Rockcastle Co., KY census HH of her parents. Their son, Robert, born 1855, has not been located in the 1870 census as yet; however, in 1879, Laurel Co, KY, he married Sarah DUNCIL, and in 1880, they are found in the Jackson Co., KY Census. According to The Combes Genealogy, Nicholas was the son of Samuel and Nancy CORNETT Combs, and moved to Clay Co., KY where he died digging a well (Seeking sources for both statements). Albert and James are next found in the 1880 Jackson Co, Ky census. Albert and George are found on the 1900 Deaf Smith Co., TX Census.

We hope he will return as he made a narrow escape with his life when he last visited Hazard, as he was standing withing a foot or two of Judge [Josiah Henry] Combs when he was shot and killed."

Notes: Ira Jesse DAVIDSON was the son of Joseph and Alice "Elsie Dutch" Combs Davidson (1930 Laurel Co., KY DC of Ira Jesse DAVIDSON) and grandson of Jesse & Mary "Polly" BOWLING Combs (1914 Perry Co., KY DC of Aley Combs). Judge Josiah Henry Combs was his maternal uncle and was killed on 15 Sep 1894.

July 15, 1898 Mt. Echo Newspaper, London, Laurel Co., Ky. "A special term of the Knox Circuit Court convened at Barbourville last Monday for the purpose of trying Jesse FIELDS, for the murder of Judge J. H. Combs, about two years ago, at Hazard. Joe ADKINS, who was indicted jointly with FIELDS, for this crime is now serving out a life sentence."

HOPPER) Lucy is in the 1880 household (see above) of Martha and her second husband James McCARTY along with her siblings Silas and Sarah Combs. Apparently, Nick and Martha had 3 children together before he died (reputedly while digging a well). The 1920 Clay Co, KY census shows one Robert L HOUSE with a wife named Lucy who was of the appropriate age. Martha PORTER was the d/o William Cathers PORTER and Loucintha ADAMS per Linda Cornell.
