Lincoln was established in 1760 from York. In 1789, Washington and Hancock were established from Lincoln. In 1799: Kennebec was established from Lincoln. In 1827, Waldo was established from Hancock, Lincoln and Kennebec. In 1854, Sagadahoc was established from Lincoln. In 1860, Knox was established from Lincoln and Waldo.

Georgetown was incorporated in 1716. Since then, the towns of Bath, West Bath, Woolwich, Phipsburg and Arrowsic have been set off in whole or in part from Georgetown. Georgetown has been part of three counties in its history: York, 1716-1760; Lincoln, 1760-1854; Sagadahoc 1854-present. The Coombs have been present in Georgetown since at least 1795.
