Christian County was formed March 8, 1859 from Greene, Taney and Webster Counties. It is in SW Missouri in the Ozark Mountains and is bordered by Greene, Lawrence, Stone, Taney, Douglas and Webster Counties. The county seat is Ozark.

Note: James Combs, previously of Perry Co, KY, per the following deed: (8 Dec 1870 (PCKY DBD:435) Indenture dated 8 Dec. 1870 between Nicholas Combs Sr., Alexander Combs, and Samuel Combs of Perry County to James J. Combs of Christian Co., Missouri, for $150 in hand paid…sell unto James J. Combs land in Perry County on the North Fork of the Kentucky River beginning at the mouth of Rock Branch…conditional line between Nicholas Combs Sr. and William HOSKINS Sr…to include all land held in patents of Alexander Combs and Samuel Combs and Nicholas Combs Sr.…400 acres more or less…signed (all 3) with Seal. Acknowledged by all three and recorded 8 Dec. 1870. James is believed to have been a son of Samuel Combs, one of the grantors. In 1860 James is found in the household of Samuel Combs and his wife Eliza Combs MORGAN. In 1880 James and wife Margaret are found in the 1880 Texas Co, MO census. By 1900 his suspected brother Crttenden C Combs has joined him in Texas Co. James is styled as James T in Texas Co, MO records (including his death record). There is no information as to the identity of his wife Margaret but the census record states she is also from Kentucky.
