Hanson County, was formed in January 1871 and named for Major Hanson who settled in the area in 1870. The county seat was temporarily located at Rockport but later changed to Alexandria in 1880. Neighboring counties are Miner, McCook, Hutchinson, Davison, and Sanborn.

Per Pat Combs O'Dell, Cydnor was born 23 Jul 1860 Morgan Co, OH, and he died 09 Feb 1923 in Alexander, Hanson Co, SD. He married Mary Belle CASTEEL on 08 Oct 1881 Holt Twp, Taylor Co, IA.
