Bradley County was established in 1836 from Indian Lands, and initially encompassed the southeastern corner of Tennessee (juncture of GA, AL and NC). In 1839, Polk Co was established from Bradley and McMinn Cos, TN.
1844 RW James STANFIELD aka STANPHILL lived in Rowan Co, NC at enlistment, then moved to Buncombe Co, NC, then to Sevier Co, Tennessee, then to "West TN" then to McMinn County, TN where he applied for RW pension on 05 Sep 1832. He was b 04 Feb 1753 in Edgecomb NC [sic], d 03 Nov 1839/40 (both dates given). His widow Fanny d 18 Dec 1842 or 17 Dec 1843 (both dates given). In 1849 his surviving children were: Cornelia & James STANFIELD, Delphia PRICE & Mary Ann (who was the 8th child). In 1849, Mary Ann was the w/o Wm. BRITTAIN. In 1844, she was a resident of Bradley County, Tennessee where she and her husband, Wm. BRITTAIN, and her brother, James STANFIELD made affidavits in Bradley County, Tennessee. 1865 Bradley County, TN marriages. James C. Combs married Amanda J. STEVENSON by William I. CAMPBELL (Combs Researcher Robert Isaac who adds that James C. Combs m 3rd in 1890 in Meigs County, Tennessee Tennie WRIGHT, and that he was the s/o Oswell/Osburn & Delphia STANFIELD Combs of McMinn County, Tennessee)
