Notes: *Neither John Combs nor William EDWARDS' entries included a page number; however, William EDWARDS appeared in the "search returned" immediately below Nathan EDWARDS on page 20 and immediately above that of William ELLIS on page 18; and John Combs immediately between those of William COLE and Arthur CRAFFORD on page 20.

Also of possible interest on this tax list are: (1) William EDWARDS of Stafford Co, VA and Clark Co, KY, m Elizabeth Combs, d/o Cuthbert & Sarah EVANS Combs, Sr., of the same two counties; (2) See William LENOIR and David MARTIN of Wilkes (and Surry) Cos NC; (3) Also note BRADSHAW and RUSSAW of Stafford and Fauquier Cos, VA, and RUSSAW-ROUSSEAU (var. sp.) from Fauquier Cos VA were most definitely also in Wilkes Co, NC; (4) See William ELLIS of Wilkes Co NC whose children intermarried with those of Thomas Hicks Combs; (5) Note that one John Combs of Greene Co, GA was on the Oglethorpe Co, GA line, and is found in Greene as a neighbor to the HAMMETTS who were also earlier of Stafford and Fauquier Cos VA, thence to Surry Co, NC, thence to Spartanburg Co SC. Questions: When did this John Combs arrive in Oglethorpe? When did he leave? Could this John Combs be the "gone missing" John Combs of Wilkes Co, NC (possibly the same who was h/o Obedience "Biddy" NANCE)?

Darby Frantz note: James Anderson married Mary "Polly" COMBS. James was the son of Nathaniel Anderson who is found in the 1798 Oglethorpe, Co., GA Tax list.
Nathaniel and wife Susannah (?) Anderson migrated to Oglethorpe Co., GA from VA. He was born abt 1742, and died in Oglethorpe County bef 1809. His will was settled in 1811. Daughter, Keziah, has been confirmed as having been born in Muddy Creek, Cumberland Co., VA. She married John Armistead, also of Cumberland Co., VA This is the only information I have that links this family to Cumberland County.
James and Polly were married in 1802. Polly Combs was the daughter of John and Hannah of Oglethorpe County. In addition, on 24 Apr 1804, John and Hannah Combs sell 100 acres on Falling Creek to James Anderson.
James Anderson is found on the Oglethorpe County tax list for 1810, and was in Greene Co., GA by 1820, and onto Butts Co., GA by 1830. James died in 1836 in Butts County, GA, and his land is dispersed in 1840. In 1840, Mary is listed as head of household in the Butts County Federal Census.
James and Polly had children: Susannah (b. bet 1804-1808), Isham (abt 1806), Nathaniel (Nov 28, 1809), John T. Sr.(Sep 14, 1812), David (Sep 23, 1814), Elizabeth (bet 1820-1825), James (abt 1820), and Martha (oct 24, 1824).

1800 Oglethorpe Co, GA Census (Census CD; Source not verified)
Combs, John, p. 9: 21101-31001-04 [eldest male in HH b bef 1765]

Note: There may be a second John Combs on this census on P. #000. One or both was probably the John Combs of 1798 and possibly the same of 1791

1807 (from The Second or 1807 Land Lottery of Georgia by Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas Jr. Published by Georgia Genealogical Reprints. 1968, p. 40.)
Johathon COMBS of Oglethorpe County was granted Lot #117 in Hudson's Militia District, District #19 in Wilkinson County.
