Dearborn County was established in 1803 from Clark County, IN (after Clark gained from the Northwest Territory). In 1807, parts of Franklin, Wayne and Jefferson Counties, IN were established from Dearborn, and in 1814, part of Switzerland County, IN was established from Dearborn. That same year, Dearborn gained territory from Jefferson County In 1816-1818, Ripley County, IN was established from Dearborn County, and in 1844, Ohio County, IN was created from Dearborn County. The county is in southeastern Indiana, and its eastern border is contiguous with both OH and KY.

Excerpted by Combs Researcher Cindy Combs from letter written to Ellen Combs Hawkins, great granddaughter of James Combs from her Aunt Lyde: "I will try to tell you about your grand parents. Grand Pa's name was Wm COMBES, his father's name James Franklin. I think they lived in Washington [Daviess Co], Ind. Grand-Ma name Nancy Matilda PIERSON, her mother name Susan TETERSHELL. They lived in Cinnati [Cinncinnati, Hamilton Co] Ohio. How they met I dont know but they lived at Parkersburg [Richland Co], Ill for years. Both are burried in Ark but I never saw their graves." CC Note: William Combs was the 1st son of James Combs and Prudence WRIGHT.
