Brooline in 1705 (Muddy River); gained from Dorchester in 1804, 1834 and 1855; exchanged land with Roxbury in 1836 and 1850; gained from Roxbury in 1860; annexed Roxbury in 1867 and Dorchester in 1869; gained from Brooline in 1870 and 1874; gained from W. Roxbury in 1872; annexed Brighton, Charlewstown; and West Roxbury in 1873; and lost to Newton in 1875.

Issue: Elizabeth, b 30 Nov 1662; John, b 20 July 1664, probably the freeman of 1690; and Mary, b 28 Nov 1666. COMBS d May 1668, after having spent much of BARLOW'S estate and the Courts ordered provisions for BARLOW'S only child and his widow who m John WARREN as his second wife, and [she] d early in 1672."

From extraction by Combs Researcher Birdie McNutt from Hide, Blushing Glory, Hide Pultova's Day, Volume 4, page 423-5 (abstracted): "John WARREN (aka WARIN, WARINS), Sr. of Boston, MA, a tobacconist (self-termed "cardmaker" in his will). m (1) ????. Issue: Joshua; Thomas; Mary, b. a. 1665; and perhaps Sarah. Name of his 1st wife is unknown, nor any bond found in records. He may have been the same who was early of Exeter [New London Co, CT?] where he m. 21 Oct. 1650, Deborah WILSON, who died 26 June 1668. In 1669, he m. (2?) Elizabeth, widow of John COMBS who had died in May 1668 (She was widow of Thomas BARLOW at time of her marriage to COMBS) Issue: Nathaniel, b. 27 May 1670. Elizabeth d 1671-2 as in Feb 1672, he exhibited inventory of her goods, and engaged to fulfil her desire towards her three daughters and his son by her, in their distrib. to one BARLOW, two COMBS, and Nathaniel WARREN. In 1685, Nathaniel BARLOW and Mary COMBS chose for their guardian, Joseph RYALL of Charlestown, whom they termed "uncle." John WARREN next m Elizabeth, by whom he had Abigail, b 10 May 1676; and John. born posthum. 10 Feb. 1678. John WARREN, Sr. may have been the freeman of 1670. He d. in July 1677, his will dated 10 Jul 1677 and proved 31 Jul 1677, included a gift to his son, Joshua, of "my engine with which I cut tobacco." On 4 Oct 1681, his widow, Elizabeth, married (2), as his second wife, Samuel LENDALL (marriage contract that date). Elizabeth m (3), in 1685 (marriage contract) as his second wife, John HAYWARD, Notary Public; and (4) Phineas WILSON of Hartford, CT. (No issue by her last three husbands)."

pre-1679 According to the History of Talbot Co MD, Vol. 2, Quaker Wenlock CRISTENSON, d 1678/9 Talbot Co, MD was earlier "sentenced to be hanged in Boston, yet was later released from prison, not because of humanity, but because the English Government ordered a mitigation of his punishment. [Date not given]. CHRISTENSON had m Elizabeth SHARPE, widow of Robert HARWOOD, and d/o Peter SHARPE. Her brother, William is found a number of times in the records of Talbot County, Maryland with William COMBS, h/o Elizabeth ROWE (d/o Edward of Lancaster VA and Talbot MD) who after COMBS' death, Nicholas LOWE.

CA Notes: I am told by cousins that Charlotte "Lottie" Bertha COOMBS was b 28 Jun 1868, 1869, or 1870 in Boston, MA, that her mother was Elizabeth MATTHEWS, b 1845 in England. Elizabeth's husband may have been a John COOMBS. Charlotte had at least one brother named Edward COOMBS who was present at Charlotte's daughter's wedding in 1916. Charlotte married John (Johannes) Dietrich RASMUSSEN who was born in Prussia (Schleswig-Holstein) sometime in the 1860's. Charlotte's oldest child was born in 1896 in Los Angeles Co. According to the cousins, after her father died, her mother took her back to England, which is where Charlotte married John RASMUSSEN. I have not found any record of a marriage in California. Also according to cousins, John lived in NY for a while as a butcher before coming to CA.

Charlestown

19 Apr 1680 Phineas PRATT (brother-in-law of John & Sarah PRIEST Combs and h/o Mary PRIEST) died, age about ninety years. PRATT had moved to "Charlestown in the Bay Colony" sometime after 1644. His will, dated 8 January 1677/78, proved 15 June 1680, with probate papers indicating that his children were John, Mary, Samuel, Daniel, Mercy, Joseph, Peter, and Aaron (MD 4:137-38).
