His early days were passed in Bowdoin, ME, however, at age 21yrs he found employment at Barker Brooks in Auburn, blacksmithing. In 1852 he went into the blacksmithing business in New Gloucester, ME, until he moved to Auburn, ME, 25 yrs before his death. He bought the old blacksmith shop on Miller St, Auburn, ME. He was 1st a member of the Free Baptist Church of Bowdoin, ME, however, join the Universalist Church.
