Somerset County, New Jersey was established in 1688 from Middlesex. In 1838, Mercer Co, NJ was est. from Burlington, Hunterdon, Middlesex and Somerset.
2 Sep 1748 Estate Administration of Obadiah WILKINS of Somerset Co, NJ. Martha, the administratrix now dec., so, 28 Dec 1768 [sic, but undoubtedly 1748], the estate was administered by Abraham CRUSEE and Jonathan COMBS. (George D.A. Combs' 1925 Manuscript. Ref: NJ Wills. 2:528)
Combs &c. Note: Likely Jonathan COMBS of Middlesex Co, NJ? Also, probably irrelevant, but see also 1600s marriage of William COMBS and Charity WILKINS, Quakers of Bristol, England, from whence also came the early Samuel COMBS of Cork, Ireland, and Philadelphia and Bucks Cos, PA.
24 Feb 1754 Will of Daniel SICKILER (SEGLER) of Somerset Co, NJ, formerly of Essex Co, NJ, mentions money due from Thomas COMBS of Newardk [Newark, Essex Co, NJ], saddler."

1798 "An Elias COMBS was witness to the will of Tobias VAN NORDEN of Bound Brook, Bridgewater Twsp. in 1798. Tobias VAN NORDEN was one of the signers with Benjamin OPEE, of the petition to the state of N.J. for services rendered for the Patriotic Cause."
