1776 Moses Newell COMBS (1754-1834) enlisted, 1776, under Capt. Caleb SAYRES and subsequently served in Baldwin's artificers. His pension was allowed, in 1832, for one year's actual service as artificer and one as sergeant in New Jersey militia.

Also: See 1900 Census of Grand Forks Co, ND census where a James C. Coombs and Robert “H.” Coombs can be found. Also a James C. Coombs born in 1874 in Kansas. This could indicate James left NJ by that date and was living in Kansas, with subsequent migration to North Dakota. (Or unlikely, this is an entirely different family.)
