Notes: John COMBS, s/o Zadock/Zedekiah COMBS of Grayson Co, VA, m Penninah Jane (BELLER?). John was probably the same who was on the 1840 Grayson Co, VA census on same page as Zadock, but had removed to Fayette Co, VA (that part which became Raleigh in 1850) by 1841 when son, Mandeville, was born according to Mandeville's 1871 Giles Co, VA marriage record. In 1880, John and Penninah and Mandeville and families were in Pulaski Co, VA.

He was born Isaac JOHNSON, Jr., went all of his childhood as Junior BANKS and when he entered the navy he changed his name to William “Bill” BANKS, Jr. The Grant BANKS listed in the Perry Co, KY 1930 census living with Hiram & Susie Combs is the son of Bell Banks from his first wife Alice. I believe her last name was HARVEY.
