Have Bible record of Zur Combs family which has Thomas Combs death date recorded in it. Also lists Zur Combs and his 2nd wife and all his childrens birth, death and marriage dates. (for Bible Records see Notes for Zur Combs)
Also see Notes for Zur Combs. Have a letter dated 1970 which it states that Thomas Combs mother was a Veach. If Job Combs is his father could Deborah Combs maiden name be Veach?
A letter to Joe Biswell's grandmother who is descended from the Peck family and is kin to Sarah and Louisiana Peck, wives of Zur combs, dated 9/9/1970 explains the Peck family history and how it descended from Peck to Combs. In this letter she states Great Great Grandfather Combs (Thomas) mother was a Veach. No source is stated but this information was obtained by research dating back to a Mrs. Martindale in a letter dated 11/4/1937 to Mr. Hardin Peck of Austin, KY requesting information on the Peck, Combs families.
The following is in part from Monroe County History - Montell, Kentucky State Library 1820-1970:
“Our first ancestors out of Virginia came on little flatboats of their own construction. They floated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Thence they drifted leisurely down the Ohio River to the mouth of the Cumberland which they ascended to Center Point…
Gorin, in Tales of Long Ago, mentions some of the earliest settlers in Monroe County: Thomas Combs, Colonel Hugh Brown, Colonel Samuel Carpenter, Jacob Goodman, Colonel James Flippin, Thomas Flippin, Esq., Colonel James Chism, Reverend John Longdon, Reverend Jacob Chism, Samuel Marrs, Nathan Breed, William Howard, Thomas Means, Captain George Bushong, Henry Bushong, John G. Bailey, Ben Gist, Daniel Hestand, Richard Bray, Jacob Lough, Welcome Martin, Franklin Hill, William Maxey, Joseph Hall, Buck Andrews, Colonel David Hardin, George Keys, Joseph Wooten, Edward Purcell, Samuel and James Wilson, the McPhersons, Howard Mercer, and Gideon Mayfield.
One cannot accurately state when most of these came, but it was mainly between 1795 and 1810.”

Notes for Deborah Thomas:
Thomas Combs wife has not been proven. This information has been passed down through generations. No records exist that names his wife as Deborah or Thomas. My personal opinion is Deborah is his mothers name making his father Job Combs.

Notes for Zur Combs:
Genealogy records received from Joe Biswell of KS. Letter date 9/9/1970 outlining the Pecks and Combs and it states that great great grandfather (Thomas Combs) mother was a Veach. If Job Combs is Thomas Combs father then could Deborah (Unkown) have been a Veach?

Notes for Elijah Azur Combs:
Death Doings December 2, 1880 The Weekly Gazette:
Uncle Elijah Combs, of the Gravois, in the 73 year of his age, died at his residence near Humes Mills, on Sunday morning last. Uncle Elijah received severe injuries in the April cyclone and has not been himself from that day. Crippled, old and feeble, he passed peacefully away to that blessed land of rest. He had filled the office of Justice of the Peace for Osage township, acceptably and well, for several consecutive years, and leaves many warm friends to lament his death.
(The headlines concerning the cyclone follows):

I have seen this Vina Dunn listed as a child of Elijah but for the life of me I do not know how this is. Maybe they adopted this daughter.
Notes for Deborah Combs:
Have not confirmed the birth year. Need to locate 1840 Barren Co., KY census for Benjamin Gosnell and see what the approximate age of Deborah was as they married in 1834, she died before 1850 making the 1840 census the only census to find out this approx. year.
UPDATE: 1840 Ky Census list her age between 20-30 years making her birth year between 1810-1820.
Her death date would have been between 1840 and 1850 as she did not appear on the 1850 census with her husband and family.

Mary STEENBERGEN Combs died October 1879 according to 1880 mortality schedule. Her age was 45 making her birth year about 1835. (JPEG file saved to my Census records) According to the mortality schedule she died of heart disease which would have been after the birth of her son James Henry Combs in 1879.
**This information was submitted to the Combs Website 6/17/08:
I found the record of my great grandmother in the 1880 Allen Co., KY Mortality Schedule stating her name Mary Combs, Age 45, Married, Father born in Kentucky, Mother born in Virginia, years residence in Allen Co 5 years, died from heart disease in October 1879.
This Mary Combs was Mary STEENBERGEN Combs married to my great grandfather Samuel Combs who was the son of Thomas Combs of Allen Co., KY. Mary died about 4 months after the birth of her last child James Henry Combs. Samuel, Mary and family departed for Missouri about 1865 (I found the church records where she received her letter of dismissal in 1865 so am assuming they left shortly after for Missouri). They appeared in the 1870 Camden Co., MO census. My grandmother was born in Missouri as was some of her brothers/sisters. According to the schedule they returned to Allen Co., KY approximately 1874 (if they had been in Allen Co., KY for 5 years).

Notes for Samuel Combs:
Email responses I received from a melbynum on rootsweb board:
My mother's parents were Sam and Mary (WATTS) Combs. They are buried in Snyder, Scurry Co, TX. Their headstone reads, “S. Combs, b. 12-30-1870, d. 1-6-1923. Mary Combs, b. 12-28-1878, d. 7-2-1928.” They were married in Hillsboro TX, 12-13-1896. Sam Combs was born in Fountain Run (Monroe Co) KY, 12-26-1869, according to a DAR application his oldest daughter, Mattie Dee Combs Wren, submitted on 4-16-1974, accepted by the National Board of Management, 10-10-1974, National Number 589491.
Good grief! You have given me more information than I ever had on the Combs family. My grandfather Combs died in 1923 and my grandmother Combs died in 1928, just six months after I was born (12-6-1927). The Combs family was never, ever mentioned in our home. I have no idea who my grandfather Combs' parents or siblings were. You have given me the best clue ever, thank you!
Meantime, there is something confusing here: You say Samuel Combs (the father of my Sam) lived in the household with Thomas up until his death in 1862, but my grandfather Sam was not born until 1870. I have no idea how or when the Sam Combs migrated to TX, only that my grandfather Combs married Mary WATTS in Hillsboro TX, 12-13-1896. My mother, the youngest of two sons and two daughters that Sam and Mary sired, was born in Tarrant County TX, 3-26-1902. She said her parents owned and operated a grocery store in the west side of downtown Fort Worth, then they also moved to Snyder, Scurry Co, TX about 1915, and farmed. She and my dad married in Snyder, 12-26-1921. I would be willing to share any information with you re: the Combs, but I just do not have it or know it. A few weeks earlier I learned that my great-grandfrandfather Combs was married to a Steenburgen in KY. I haven't been able to follow up that that lead yet
