St Michael Bassishaw (1.24 mi. north of city centre) was rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1666, but was sold in 1899 and demolished in 1900. It was united to St Lawrence Jewry in 1897. Parish records are in the Guildhall Library: baptisms, 1538-1892; marriages, 1538-1890; banns, 1755-1892; and burials, 1538-1853. Later baptisms, marriages and banns were entered in the registers of St. Lawrence Jewry which were destroyed or damaged beyond repair by enemy action in 1940. A partial index to baptisms and marriages for the years 1538-1880 is in the IGI.
