baptizatus: (latin) baptised
Barm, Bram: nickname for Biram, Byrum (and possibly Abiram)
baseborn: born out of wedlock. Example
Bertie, Birdie: nickname for Roberta, Bertalina
Betsy/Bettie/Betts: nickname for Elizabeth
Biddie, Biddy: nickname for Obedience and Bridget
bilious fever: non-specific term often applied to intestinal and malarial fevers. Example
Bill: nickname for William (abbrev. Wm. or Willm.)
bill of adventure: a maritime law term; a written certificate by a merchant or the master or owner of a ship, declaring that the property and the risk to goods shipped on the vessel in his own name belong to another person, to whom he is accountable for the proceeds alone. Example
Bitha: nickname for Tabitha
black death: typhus (disease)
black lung: pneumoconiosis, a disease contracted from inhaling coal dust.
blacksmith: one who forges iron (black metals). Sometimes used to denote a horse-shoer, the proper term for which is ferrier. See Combs &c. occupations
Bob, Robin: nickname for Robert (abbrev. Robt.)
Boney, Bony: nickname for Napoleon Bonaparte
bounty land warrant: (BLW) right to a specific number of acres of unallocated public land granted for military service (Seen frequently in U.S. Revolutionary War and War of 1812 records). Example
Buford, Bluford: in the Southern United States, may be a nickname for the full name William Buford/Bluford
