Theydon Bois (a.k.a. Thoydon Boyce, Thoydon-Bois, etc.) is 3.93 mi. northeast of Chigwell and 14.3 mi. northeast of London, a parish in the hundred of Ongar, Essex, 3½ miles S from Epping. Also in the Hundred of Ongar, and only a short distance away, was Mount Thoydon where the church, dedicated to St. Michael, includes SMITH Family monuments, including one to the memory of Sir Thomas SMITH, Chancellor of the Garter and Principal Secretary of State, in the reigns of Edward VI. and Elizabeth.
