  • Note: This branch is documented thoroughly. -- tax , census, War of 1812 records, newspapers, and birth, marriage, and death records. Most census and tax records were from microfilm. I used books for birth, marriage and death records and War of 1812 records. For more recent generations, I have death certificates. Some obituaries came from newspapers. Later I started using Ancestory.com. Interested in establishing the specific COMBS branch for this line.
    I would like to resolve --
    • The 1880 census for Jeremiah Combs states that his father Edward Combs was born in Virginia. Is that true?;
    • Family stories indicating our line is related to the Combs line from Hazard KY are now disproved.
    • War of 1812 Pension records state Edward Combs married Sophia Hicks in the Indiana Territory in 1808. Did Edward live in the Indiana Territory?
    • The book Kentucky Soldiers of the War of 1812 lists Edward on the roll of Captain David Todd's company on August 20, 1813, and I can locate Edward Combs as early as 1814 on Fayette Co KY tax records. Where was Edward before these dates and where does he come from?
