DC Notes: Job COMBS, age 65, appears to have been the same who d 1 Mar 1853, and is buried in Rockport Cemetery, Monroe Twp (which lies on the edge of the Allen-Putnam Co. border). William G. COMBS' first wife I have listed as Susan BALDWIN (noted above in the 1850 Census). In my earlier research I didn't confirm that information, so I have to somehow find out how I got that information in the first place. Susan apparently d by 1860 when William G. is listed w/children only in the 1860 Goshen Twp, Auglaize Co, OH Census.

Rockport Presbyterian Body Organized Seventy-five Years Ago
Program to Call up Facts of Congregation's Growth
ROCKPORT, Nov. 7 -- (Special) -- The seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of the Rockport Presbyterian church will be observed Sunday and Monday at the church, nine miles northeast of Lima. Former members of the church, which include prominent residents of Lima and people in virtually every part of the county, will be present at the services. It will be a union service of Bluffton and Rockport congregations. The Rev. J Norman King, former Lima minister, will deliver the sermon at the morning services. His subject will be "Past and Present Privileges."
On Monday at 10:30 a.m., the Rev. Edward Layport, D. D. of Columbus Grove, former pastor of the church, will deliver an address on "Rockport Forty Years Ago." Rev. Layport served as pastor of the church from 1879 to 1881.
Rev. Todd, of Fremont, pastor of the church 20 years ago, will talk on "Rockport Twenty Years Ago." A history of the Rockport church will be given by Miss Eunice Trumbo of Columbus after which the Rev. M. E. Todd, of Rockford, O., will talk on "The Future of the Rural church."
At the meeting in September of the Maumee Prebytery 1850, the Rev. W. E. Brice and the Rev. R. M. Badeau were appointed meet the Presbyterian people in and around Rockport and to assist in the organization of a congregation. Until that time adherents of that faith had worshiped in the Taro Church in Columbus Grove file miles away. A meeting was arranged for Nov. 9, 1850 and following an address by the Rev. Brice, the church was formally occupied.
At the outset services were conducted in a frame structure similar to other rural churches in those days. As the congregation grew, it was decided to construct a more modern edifcace and today the community boasts of one of the most modern rural churches in northwestern Ohio.
The charter members of the church included Job Combs, Jane Combs, William G. Combs, Susan Combs, J. Alfred Combs, Eliza Combs, Rebecca Combs, William Combs, Susanna Crane, Samuel Van Swaringen, Nancy Swaringen, Stephen Cook, Amanda Cook, Martha Grant, Rachael Fleming, and Hannah Van Meter.
The roll of ministers: R. M. Badeau, W. K. Brice, C. R. Van Emmen, J. B. Strain, David Kingery, Francis Synn, W. J. Gerlack, L. C. Kline, A. J. Clarck, A. C. Derr, W. S. Acomb, John Todd, W. S. Morrow, R. C. Townsend, M. E. Todd and J. Norman King.
