Stafford County, VA is part of the Combs &c. Deed Mapping Project.
Stafford County, VA was established in 1664 from Westmoreland Co VA (although no Combs have been located in records of Westmoreland prior to late 1600s). Descendant Counties include Prince William in1730-1 (Fairfax > Loudoun, and Fauquier). In 1777, major exchanges took place between Stafford & King George Counties. (Note map above and see also Combs County Line Land maps)
Important! The land tracked in this report does not include that part of Stafford which ultimately became part of Loudoun (Prince William > Fairfax > Loudoun). Only land in present-day Stafford, Prince William and Fauquier Cos are included here. See also Combs &c. Land of Loudoun Co, VA.
It appears that most, if not all, Combs of Stafford Co VA lived in or near the Aquia Creek area bordering both the Prince William and Fauquier County lines. Even when not "county-line land," the distances between various locations were not great:
"John RALLS, Senior, advertisement in the Virginia Gazette for sale of his 780-85 acre plantation in Overwharton Parish, 1 Aug1771, describes same as: "convenient to Trade, lies fourteen Miles from the Falls of Rappahannock, twelve from Dumfries, on Potomack, seven from Aquia Warehouse, the same distance from Aquia Church, six from the Quaker Meeting House, five from the Baptist Meeting House, in Fauquier County, four from Chapwasmick [Chopawamsic] Meeting House, in Stafford County, and not quite three miles from Two Grist Mills."

Capt. William DOWNEING. 200 A. Stafford Co., upon Potomac Cr. Run. Part of tract of 6,000 acs. patented by Thomas WILKINTON [sic], who gave same to William NEWMAN for seating the whole devident. NEWMAN made choice of 200 A., half of which he sold to John BLAGRAVE & the other to John KEETH, who bought BLAGRAVE'S part. At his death, sd. KEETH divided same equally bet. his son & dau. & the son dying bef he attained age, the land desc. to his daughter, who intermarried with John MARTIN, "& afterwards died in child bed, the child also dying."
