Hardin is located in the Pennyrile region of the State. The County seat is at Elizabethtown, KY. The county was established in 1792-3 from Nelson, and in 1799, Breckinridge was established from Hardin. In 1804, Green gained land from Hardin and in 1810 Grayson was established from Hardin and Ohio. In 1823-4,Meade was established from Hardin and Breckinridge; and in 1843, Larue was established from Hardin.
Many of the Hardin Co., KY Combs families were of or related to the Tonolloways group. The earliest Combs of Hardin Co., KY were recorded here long before Hardin's existence, with Jesse Combs having obtained a survey on 14 Aug 1786, at which time his 510 acres was in Jefferson County (then VA), and later in Nelson, his land described as being "510 acres on the waters of Greene River Severns Valley adj. John WARFORD* and Thomas HELM." (KY Grants 5:318). This was apparently Jesse, son of Joseph Combs, died 1803, Gorges Twp., Fayette Co., PA, based on later Hardin tax records.

Denise Mortorff notes: Benjamin Kendall who was from Stafford County,VA, lived in Nelson Co., KY for awhile and also lived on Nolin Creek in Hardin County in the early 1800's. He would be a contemporary of William Kendall who married Cicy Brown. I believe Benjamin is likely a descendant of William and Elizabeth Combes Kendall since he married into the Alexander Jamison family according to a Rev. War pension application which includes an affidavit showing his marriage in Stafford County, VA.
Alexander Jamison shows up in the will of Joshua Brown, father of Cicy Brown Kendall. The families were very close.
